Frequently Asked Questions

What is "Steps for Sycamore Jog-A-Thon"?
On Friday, May 11 each student will run, jog or walk around the school track for 15-20 minutes. This is not a contest on how many laps students can complete. This is a fun activity that students will love and look forward to every year. Prior to the event, each family will have the opportunity to raise financial support for the school via the Jog-A-Thon using a variety of options.

Does Steps for Sycamore Jog-A-Thon replace the Auction for Advancement?
No! They are both important for the continued success of Sycamore School

How will families be asked to raise money for the Jog-A-Thon?
Each family will have several options to consider. The options range from filling out donation mailers and/or sending out emails asking for support to procuring a corporate sponsorship or making a family donation.

What if we are not comfortable asking family members for a donation?
Consider sending mailers or emails to professionals you do business with such as doctors, dentists, orthodontists, bankers, financial planners, tax advisors, car dealers, jewelers, dry cleaners, florists – the list is only limited by your imagination! Browse through your email address book as another resource for non-family members.

Will students be asked to obtain sponsors by going door to door?
This is one of the 5 options families will be given to support the Jog-A-Thon. The SSA does not encourage this type of fundraising effort, but many have asked for this option.

How does my child get a "Steps for Sycamore Jog-A-Thon" t-shirt?
If your family chooses to participate by completing one of the 5 options by the deadline, each child you have at Sycamore will receive a free t-shirt. T-shirts will be on sale for siblings and adults at the day of the jog-a-thon.

What is the Fundraising Goal for the Jog-A-Thon?
The goal is to raise $90,000 after expenses that are estimated at $7,000.

How do I donate?
Donations can be made using cash, check or credit card. If you wish to charge your donation, you can do this through the home page by clicking on the "Donate" button. You can also raise money for the Jog-A-Thon by obtaining a corporate sponsor. See the "Sponsorship Form" on the home page for more information.

Why does my credit card payment go to Auction Pay?
Auction Pay is a secure, e-commerce company Sycamore uses to help process on-line credit card payments for events like the Jog-A-Thon. We can accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes.

Where does my donation go?
All monies raised goes to support SSA and Sycamore School.

Can I donate to the Jog-A-Thon in other ways?
Corporate sponsors are a large part of the financial success of the Jog-A-Thon. If you own a business or work for a company that would benefit from advertising their product or service to the Sycamore community, please pick up a sponsorship brochure at the front office. Also, volunteering is important for the overall success of this event. Please contact your Class Coach for volunteer options.

Can family members participate if they are not students at Sycamore?
Yes, we want this to be a family-friendly event and encourage parents, siblings, extended family members, and friends to come out and walk/run with your child during their designated time. A Track Schedule will be posted on the Jog-A-Thon home page by February 1st.

What happens if it rains?
Our rainy day plan is to move indoors and walk around the gym.
